Mobile Monitor Your Gambling & Urges (MYGU)

The Problem Gambling Institute of Ontario (PGIO) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) created Mobile Monitor Your Gambling & Urges (MYGU), an App that promotes self-awareness of gambling behaviours. This educational tool can gather important information about gambling behaviours and report back to the gambler:

  • The date and time they experienced an urge to gamble
  • What triggers their urges to gamble (e.g., having money, feeling bored or lonely)
  • What activities they do instead of gambling
  • Wins and losses when they gambled
  • Their feelings—if they gambled or didn’t gamble
  • Consequences—if they gambled or didn’t gamble
  • The App is not only a valuable tool for the user to track or resist gambling urges, it can also complement counselling sessions and provide valuable information to therapists.
Bet Blocker

Bet Blocker is a free app, which blocks access to gambling sites.  It is available for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS.  It is important to note that once the app is activated, you cannot remove the restrictions until your selected restriction length has expired.

The Gamban App is a software application for PCs and Laptops (Windows and Mac), as well as Android and iOS devices.  Gamban is designed to block access to all gambling sites.

iPromises

Created by Elements Behavioural Health, iPromises  is an iPhone recovery App with trigger alerts, a visual journal, and a directory of phone numbers for support anywhere in the US, Canada, and some international offices. Users can add friends and share meetings, track progress and challenges, and get a daily positive message. It also enables them to track any setbacks, issues or achievements.

Addiction Avert App

This app uses Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), which is similar to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.  REBT is also used by the SMART Recovery movement.  The app helps you to identify your triggers to gamble (‘activating events’), examine irrational beliefs associated with those triggers and dispute those irrational beliefs – leading to a change in your philosophy.

My Gamblers Anonymous Toolkit App

This app features: Recovery Journal, Gratitude List, Spot-Check Inventories, GA Abstinence Birthday Calculator, Anonymous Icon (To protect anonymity, the actual app icon does not show references to Gamblers Anonymous).

Sobertool App

This app has been developed to help prevent relapse in all forms of addiction (including gambling).  Users can track money saved as well as days in recovery.  The app also includes a community forum.
